Should your website content be ready before design starts?
Many projects slip because the content arrives at the last minute. When should you start writing it, and how do you prepare it without holding up design?

One question we hear a lot: does the content need to be ready before design starts? The short answer: it doesn't need to be final, but it does need to be clear. Good design is built around content, not the other way round.
Why content shapes design
Heading length, the number of services, whether real photos exist — all of it decides how a page looks. If we design with placeholder text and the real copy turns out three times longer, the page has to be rearranged, costing time and money that could have been saved.
What should be ready from day one
- The list of pages you need
- Your main services or products, by name
- A clear message: who you are and who you serve
- Any photos or logos you already have
What can follow during design
Detailed copy, FAQs and articles can be written alongside design. What matters is a clear structure to design on and a rough idea of how long each part will be.
Our advice
Start with a simple draft for every page, even if it's bullet points. We'll help you shape and word it for your visitors, and you'll get a site that launches on time with no surprises.
